Initiatives
Energy Conservation

Beacon reduces operating costs as a result of its energy conservation initiatives. Beacon’s Energy Team implements a combination of no cost operational changes at all properties and installs cost effective retrofits to reduce energy usage. This program has resulted in immediate energy usage reductions and improved building operations. Also, when energy intensive equipment reaches the end of its useful life, Beacon installs new equipment with the highest energy efficiency available.

Renewable Energy

Beacon is pursuing several renewable energy projects at its properties. One major project, at its flagship Manhattan 6th Avenue property, is the installation and operation of a fuel cell that will provide 20% of the building's electricity and 50% of the building's hot water for heating and bathroom sinks and showers. The fuel cell is cutting edge renewable energy technology that produces no air pollution, is noise-free and reduces the building's carbon footprint.

Recycling

Beacon implemented a company-wide waste recycling and management program designed to achieve a goal of 80% recycling at its properties. At this level of recycling, waste disposal no longer is a cost item, but a revenue producer, since properties are paid for their recyclable materials. Beacon is also providing its tenants with secure, responsible disposal of electronic waste and batteries.

Green Cleaning

All Beacon properties in the US and Europe have active "green cleaning" programs that use eco-friendly cleaning products, equipment and methods – with no increase in cost compared to old cleaning methods and positive tenant feedback.
