Press Release

Boston, November 15, 2022 – Beacon Capital Partners achieved five stars for its latest submissions to GRESB, an established global environmental, social, and governance (ESG) benchmarking and reporting framework. Over the past five years, Beacon has participated in GRESB, and in 2021 its Fund 7 placed first in office overall across the Americas (out of 72 peers) and achieved five stars. In 2022, Beacon increased its participation in GRESB, submitting data for Fund 7, Fund 8, and a joint venture portfolio, and achieved five-star ratings for all three portfolios. Beacon’s Funds 7 and 8 are included in the United States Office: Corporate/Value-Added category, while its JV portfolio submission is included in the United States Office: Non-listed GRESB peer group.

Notable scores for this year’s assessment include 30 out of 30 points for management, outperforming the benchmark by six points. Within the management component, Beacon earned top scores for leadership, policies, reporting, building certifications, data monitoring and review, targets, tenants and community, and stakeholder engagement.

“For decades, Beacon has been committed to creating healthy, vibrant workplaces with a focus on efficiency and sustainability,” said Fred Seigel, President and Chief Executive Officer of Beacon Capital Partners. “We are proud to be recognized for our best practices. Looking forward, we’ll continue to advance our sustainability initiatives that positively affect our portfolios, our tenants, our communities, and the world around us.”

Each year, GRESB assesses and benchmarks the ESG performance of assets worldwide, providing clarity and insights to financial markets on complex sustainability topics. GRESB data are used by hundreds of capital providers and thousands of asset managers to benchmark investments across portfolios and to better understand the opportunities, risks, and choices that need to be made as the industry transitions to a more sustainable future. The GRESB Assessments are guided by what investors and the industry consider to be material issues in the sustainability performance of asset investments, and are aligned with international reporting frameworks, goals, and emerging regulations. The GRESB ESG Benchmark grew this year to cover more than $8.6 trillion of assets under management, up from $6.4 trillion the year before.

“With more fund managers and asset owners reporting to GRESB than ever before, we are proud to see the global real assets industry deepen its commitment to ESG transparency and pave the way for a more sustainable future,” said Sebastien Roussotte, CEO of GRESB.

Beacon has also been recognized for 11 consecutive years as ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year for leadership in promoting energy efficiency and sustainability. The company currently owns over 21 million square feet of certified green buildings, and 82% of its buildings have achieved Gold or Platinum certification, the two highest LEED certification levels available. Beacon is also a Fitwel Champion, recognized by the world’s leading certification system for optimizing buildings across the portfolio to support health.
