Press Release

Boston, MA, December 22, 2020 – Beacon Capital Partners, a leading U.S. office investor, announced that Beacon Capital Strategic Partners VII received its third consecutive four-star rating in the annual Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB). As with past years, the Beacon fund also received the Green Star. This is the latest industry acknowledgment of the firm’s commitment to ESG.

Beacon earned a score of 79 points out of 100 in the 2020 GRESB assessment, ranking four points higher than the average score in its peer group and nine points higher than the average overall GRESB score. Beacon was awarded four stars for the third year in a row, based on a scale of one to five in the GRESB assessment. Beacon was also awarded the Green Star designation for performance levels above its peer group. The fund has consistently ranked among the top of its peer group in the US Office: Corporate/Value-added category.

Other key industry designations Beacon has earned include nine consecutive years of ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year for leadership in promoting energy efficiencies and sustainability; Fitwell Champion, recognized by the world’s leading certification system for optimizing buildings to support health; and LEED certification for office buildings representing over 55 million square feet.

Each year GRESB assesses and benchmarks the ESG performance of over $5 trillion real assets worldwide. The evaluations are guided by what investors and the industry consider to be material issues in the sustainability performance of real asset investments and are aligned with international reporting frameworks, goals, and emerging regulations.

"With accelerating sustainability risks, accessing standardized and reliable ESG data has never been more important to investors,” said Sander Paul van Tongeren, Co-founder and Managing Director at GRESB. “It’s inspiring to witness the collective industry effort from around the world to improve ESG transparency and advance sustainable real assets.”
